PREFACE

All praise and thanks be to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, God Almighty. With His blessings and guidance, we can compile the Module of Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) in Inland Waters, a Technical Guidance Module for Assessment Indicators of Fisheries Management using an Ecosystem Approach. This module is compiled by the collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and FAO Indonesia within the implemented project framework of the Mainstream Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use into Inland Fisheries Practices in Freshwater Ecosystem of High Conservation Value (I-Fish GCP/INS/303/GFF). Meanwhile, Technical Guidance for the Assessment of EAFM Indicators in Inland Waters is carried out to achieve optimization, efficiency, and effectiveness of EAFM implementation in Inland Waters. It is achieved by optimizing the role of local governments, universities, fisheries instructors, communities, and/or other community groups in evaluating EAFM indicators in inland waters.

This module was adopted from the Essential EAFM Training Course, which the Regional Office published for Asia and The Pacific - Food and Agriculture Organization in 2014, and the Technical Guidelines for Assessing EAFM Indicators in Inland Waters prepared by the Directorate of Fish Resources Management with support from the WWF Indonesia Foundation in 2020. We expected that this module could positively and sustainably contribute to managing fisheries in the Fisheries Management Area of the Indonesian Republic in inland waters with an ecosystem approach, especially through the active involvement and participation of all stakeholders.

We thank and appreciate the Writing Team and Discussion Team, as well as the TAKA Indonesia Foundation, for supporting the preparation of this module. So this module can be completed following the set targets. We are fully aware that this module still has many limitations. So, we expected constructive criticism, input, or suggestions as material for improving or developing modules in the future.
