1. Cijalu River
Cijalu the main river that Fisheries Office proposed, and the most suitable one to be used as restocking site, based on scoring analysis. The assessed river segment is located in Jenang Village, around 1,5 km from Majenang Sub-District center. It is located around 45 km from seashore with elevation of 60 amsl (above mean sea level). The location is accessible by cars, although normal, city cars are generally not recommended.
The water clarity in around the assessed location is very good. Riparian vegetation around the area was also quite dense and less disturbed. Additionally, some parts of the area are covered by rocks, which are suitable habitat for eels.
There are two assessment points that are sampled in this area. The first area is shallow segment covered by rocks, while the second was the deeper part with slower water current (Fig. 2).
There is a water gate which enclose the river at around 0,5 km (downstream direction) from the assessment points (Fig 3). Although the dam blocks the stream, there is a channel at the dam that provide route for the eels to move downstream.
This river segment is generally not a fishing ground, although some individuals usually fish using fishing rods for non-specific fish. Eels in non-glass eel stadia are common. Locals also mentioned that when the caught eels were cut, they found small freshwater crabs inside their gut. This indicates that small crabs are one of the main preys for eels in the area.
